Ahangama is a coastal town in southern Sri Lanka, known for its beautiful beaches and excellent surfing conditions. It's a popular destination for both beginners and experienced surfers, with various breaks suitable for different skill levels. Kabalana Main Surf Point or The Rock as it is also known, is reputed to be the best A-Frame reef break in Sri Lanka. Generally it has good power, left and rights with a fast ride of around 400m. Kabalana is more a short board wave, South Beach Point just north is better for long-boards. Between Jan to Mar waves can hold to 8-10ft, making it a popular break for intermediates, advanced and locals.

Along Ahangama's coast, there are plenty of fun activities, but I highly recommend heading inland as well. Here, you can experience authentic Sri Lanka, immerse yourself in the culture, and witness local customs. Rent a scooter and cruise past beautiful rice paddies and small villages where locals wave at you with smiles. A ride around Koggala Lake makes for a scenic route that takes about two hours.
